APELON ANNOUNCES NEW VERSION OF DISTRIBUTED TERMINOLOGY
SYSTEM (DTS)
DTS Version 3 Sets New Industry Standard for Use of Multiple Terminologies,
Customization
RIDGEFIELD, CT – November 11, 2002 – Apelon,
supplier of healthcare terminology software and services, today announced
Version 3 of its runtime vocabulary solution, the Distributed Terminology
System (DTS). DTS is an advanced toolkit for the practical deployment
of standard terminologies. DTS Version 3, to be released in spring
2003, offers an expanded terminology base and significant new customization
and management tools.
The new DTS knowledge base provides unique integration of all critical
healthcare terminologies, including SNOMED CT®, CPT™, ICD-9,
ICD-10, drug vocabularies from First DataBank and Multum, and all
vocabularies available in the National Library of Medicine's Metathesaurus.
Coupled with its flexible subscription and update service, DTS V3
ensures continued return on an organization's terminology investment.
"Apelon's integration of multiple vocabularies within the DTS
framework represents an ever growing, reliable source of structured
terminologies to support current applications and applications in
development," says Stephen Coady, Apelon's President and CEO.
DTS Version 3.0 also provides enhanced features for the customization
and administration of terminology systems; advanced version management
capabilities for effective long-term data analysis, update software
to alert an organization to potential term conflicts, and flexible
subsetting methodologies to assure consistency in terminology use
among diverse clinical applications within a healthcare enterprise.
Apelon's unique expertise in deploying multisource vocabularies
is strengthened by more than 14 years of experience supporting the
NLM's Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) Metathesaurus, a compendium
of the world's major healthcare vocabularies. Organizations use Apelon's
DTS to generate and translate information among the coding schema
used in healthcare. This improves the quality of the data and helps
reduce medical errors. DTS is also used in other applications including
public health surveillance, pharmaceutical research and clinical
decision support.
