HARRIS CORPORATION ENGAGES ONTYX
August 1, 1998 – Harris Corporation
of Melbourne Florida has awarded Ontyx a three year contract to develop,
maintain, and support innovative studies of a large data repository
for the various insured and self-insured benefit programs offered
by Harris to its employee / retirees and their dependents. The data
warehouse is populated with paid claims and eligibility information
plus contributions from pharmacy, behavioral health, imaging, and
primary care center carveouts.
Ontyx's work in structured terminology is driven by expectation
that healthcare will demand better and more sophisticated decision
support, and that such systems will need to embrace the free text
information of progress notes, problem lists, and so forth. But appreciation
of the evolution of decision support systems requires intimate understanding
of the applications as currently typically deployed. Today the large
self-funded employer-sponsored health benefit programs have some
of the most impressive practical experience in practice analysis,
identification of best proven practices, small area variance analysis,
outcomes studies, provider behavior modification, and other healthcare
management analytics and tools. The work Ontyx does for Harris assures
that Ontyx does not get too far ahead of or afield from the mainstream
of emerging demand for healthcare decision support.
