LEXICAL AND FIRST DATABANK ANNOUNCE LICENSING AGREEMENT
FDB Drug Data To Be Integrated with Clinical Vocabulary Software
Alameda, CA - February 23, 1998 – Lexical
Technology, Inc., and First DataBank, Inc. today announced that drug
information from First DataBank's National Drug Data File (NDDF)
will be integrated into Lexical Technology's Metaphrase® Thesaurus.
The Metaphrase Thesaurus is the foundation of Lexical's Metaphrase
Enterprise Vocabulary System (EVS).
The Metaphrase EVS is a family of software components and services
for the creation, management, and support of authoritative vocabularies
for healthcare enterprises. Today's healthcare organizations must
manage from facts, and Lexical's Metaphrase components enable these
enterprises to employ standard clinical terminology, create comparable
patient records, and produce meaningful outcomes analysis, decision
support, and reimbursement processes. The Metaphrase Thesaurus is
based on the National Library of Medicine's UMLS® Metathesaurus®,
an integration of more than 40 authoritative coding and terminology
systems used in healthcare.
First DataBank will make available within the Metaphrase Thesaurus
the set of unique code identifiers and descriptive terms that represent
therapeutic classifications, ingredients, generic drug formulations,
and packaged drug products within the NDDF. First DataBank will also
provide the hierarchical relationships required to group packaged
drug products (NDCs) within generic drug formulations. First DataBank
will provide both its own hierarchical organ/pharmacological/therapeutic
classification scheme as well the American Hospital Formulary Service
(AHFS) classifications.
"The addition of comprehensive drug data from First Databank
is a major enhancement to the Metaphrase Thesaurus," said David
Sherertz, founder, President, and CEO of Lexical Technology. "First
DataBank is a leader in the field of clinical drug information and
this partnership will assure that our customers have complete and
accurate information on drugs and drug classifications."
"First DataBank is very pleased that Lexical selected our NDDF
data for integration into Metaphrase," said Jim Wilson, Vice
President of Marketing and Sales for First DataBank. "Lexical's
extensive background and experience in healthcare vocabularies makes
them an ideal partner as we work to better integrate drug and therapeutic
information into decision support, clinical guidelines, and quality
management."
