APELON EXECUTIVES RECEIVE INDUSTRY RECOGNITION

Key Leadership Appointments Made to Industry Groups

Ridgefield, CT, August 17, 2010 – Apelon, Inc., a leading provider of terminology and data interoperability solutions, today announced that two of its employees have received significant industry recognition for their work in data standards and coding systems.

Kathy Giannangelo, Apelon's Director of Content Management, has been elected to the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Board of Directors. Over the next three years, Ms. Giannangelo will work to advance AHIMA's strategic vision for health information management, particularly in the area of health informatics and vocabulary standards including, terminologies, code sets, and nomenclatures. 
 
Dr. Robert McClure, Apelon Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, has been selected by United States UMLS/SNOMED CT licensees to serve as a US representative to the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO). Dr. McClure will serve on the IHTSDO's Implementation and Innovation Committee where he will work to enhance IHTSDO resources for SNOMED CT^® implementers, provide guidance on US needs to support SNOMED CT^® adoption, and look for innovative ways to improve the IHTSDO process.
